Best Food for Eclectus Parrots

Eclectus parrots are famous for their bright colors and their sensitive digestion. In the wild they eat mostly fruits, seeds, blossoms and plant matter, and many Eclectus keepers find their birds do best on a diet built around fresh produce and natural ingredients.

What Eclectus parrots need

  • Lots of fresh produce. Fruits and vegetables, especially orange and dark green ones rich in vitamin A, should be a big part of the daily diet.
  • Natural ingredients. Many owners prefer foods without artificial colors or unnecessary additives for this species.
  • A food that isn't seed-only. Seed-heavy diets are too high in fat and miss important nutrients.

Our pick: Grey/Eclectus Paradise Ultimate Blend

This blend was made for Eclectus and African Greys. It uses fortified, non-colored pellets and adds mixed nuts and almonds, dried fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs, cuttlebone chunks for calcium, hot peppers and cinnamon sticks. The mix of textures and aromas tempts even picky eaters.

Want to keep it even simpler?

Our Natural Choice Ultimate Blend is lower in sugar and made with organic pellets, with no peanuts, sunflower seeds, raisins, sulfur dioxide or artificial colors. Pair either blend with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Switching to a new food

Mix the new food with what your bird eats now and increase it gradually over two to four weeks. Watch that your bird is eating well and keeping a normal weight during the switch.

Our blends are made fresh, so keep about two weeks' supply at room temperature in a sealed container and refrigerate the rest. Don't freeze it.
