Best Food for Parrotlets
Parrotlets are tiny, but they have the personality of a much bigger parrot. They need the same balanced nutrition as larger parrots, just in a size their small beaks can handle.
What parrotlets need
- Small pieces. Pellets and fruit pieces need to be sized for a little beak.
- A pellet base. Seed-only diets are too high in fat and too low in vitamins and minerals.
- Fresh produce. Finely chopped vegetables and leafy greens round out the diet.
Our pick: Small Bird Benji Ultimate Blend
Benji is our Ultimate Blend made specifically for small birds like parrotlets, with smaller pellets and fruits. Each bag includes fortified, non-colored pellets, mixed nuts, dried fruits and dried vegetables, made fresh in our store.
Shop: By the pound · 5 lb bag · 10 lb bag · 20 lb bag
Switching to a new food
Mix the new food with what your parrotlet eats now and increase it gradually over two to four weeks. Small birds can lose condition quickly, so make sure yours is eating well throughout.
Our blends are made fresh, so keep about two weeks' supply at room temperature in a sealed container and refrigerate the rest. Don't freeze it. For one or two parrotlets, buying by the pound or a 5 lb bag keeps food at its freshest.
