Harrison's High Potency vs. Adult Lifetime: Which Should You Choose?

Harrison's makes two main pellet formulas: High Potency and Adult Lifetime. Both are certified organic, created by avian veterinarians and nutritionists, and designed as complete daily diets. So what's the difference, and which should your bird eat?

The short version

  • Adult Lifetime is Harrison's everyday maintenance formula for healthy adult birds.
  • High Potency is Harrison's richer formula. Avian vets often recommend it for birds that need more nutritional support, such as birds converting from a seed diet, and some species are kept on it year-round.

Because the right choice can depend on your bird's species, age and health, it's best to ask your avian vet which formula and for how long.

Nugget sizes

Both formulas come in two sizes:

  • Fine for smaller birds such as budgies, cockatiels, conures, lovebirds and canaries.
  • Coarse for larger birds such as African Greys, Amazons, cockatoos, Eclectus, macaws and Pionus.

Pepper or plain?

Many parrots love the pepper versions. Birds don't feel pepper heat the way we do, so pepper formulas can be a great way to tempt picky eaters.
