Peanut-Free, Lower-Sugar Parrot Food: Meet Natural Choice
Share
Many bird owners want a food that's simpler and cleaner than a typical seed mix. Some want to avoid peanuts, others want less sugar, and others just want fewer additives. Our Natural Choice Ultimate Blend was created for exactly these owners.
What's left out, and why it matters
- No peanuts. Peanuts are prone to mold, and moldy peanuts can carry toxins. Some owners prefer to avoid them entirely. Peanut-free food is also a good fit for households where a person has a peanut allergy.
- No sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds are high in fat, and many birds will pick them out and ignore everything else.
- No raisins. Raisins are concentrated sugar.
- No sulfur dioxide. This preservative is commonly used in dried fruit, and many owners prefer unsulphured foods.
- No artificial colors.
What's in it
Natural Choice is a nutritionally balanced, lower-sugar diet built on organic pellets. Like all of our Ultimate Blends, it's made fresh daily in our store.
Which birds is it good for?
Natural Choice works for parrots of all sizes. It's especially popular with owners of:
- Cockatoos and Amazons, which tend to gain weight easily. See our cockatoo and Amazon guides.
- Eclectus, whose owners often prefer simple, natural ingredients. See our Eclectus guide.
- Birds that pick out sunflower seeds and leave the rest.
Sizes
Natural Choice comes in 4 lb, 8 lb, 13 lb and 20 lb bags.
Making the switch
Because Natural Choice doesn't include the sunflower seeds and peanuts many birds are used to, some birds need a little time to accept it. Mix it into your bird's current food and increase it gradually over a few weeks, and weigh your bird regularly. Our guide to switching your parrot to pellets has more tips.
